  • NWJS OFSTED report

Tue 11 Oct 2022 Mrs Read

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to inform you that the final Ofsted inspection report from the Junior School’s two-day inspection on 21st and 22nd September accompanies this covering letter. The report will also be accessible via the school website today and published on the official Ofsted report website, eight working days from today’s date. The purpose of an ‘ungraded’ inspection is to gauge whether a school continues to be ‘good’ as indicated in our previous report in July 2015, or to find out whether there is evidence to suggest a school is above or below its original grading.

As you will read in the report, OFSTED agreed with our self-evaluation that this remains a very good school.

The inspector was impressed with our strong culture of safeguarding and our extensive curriculum offer here, both in academic lessons and beyond lessons in our personal development curriculum. We were thrilled that the inspector also praised the high quality of teaching in reading, which was judged to be a strength of the school, as well as our commitment to being ambitious for every child, ensuring that they are well supported to be successful in their learning at school and in their preparation for secondary school.

The report recognises the hard work of the whole school and Broad Horizons Trust community and we would like to thank you for your continued support to ensure that our children not only learn well but flourish.

    Yours faithfully,

    Mrs Jo Read

    Executive Headteacher

  • Consultation regarding the closure of the Nursery

Mon 08 Mar 2021 Mrs Read

** Please note: the consultation period has closed **

Today we are beginning a consultation which invites you to comment on the closure of the Nursery at North Walsham Infant and Nursery School.

The proposal is to close the Nursery due to insufficient demand for places and the associated financial losses resulting from this.

The change will take effect from September 1st 2021.

We have a 52 place Nursery for three and four year olds, with only around 20 children in attendance throughout the year. We share our catchment with five other Nursery/Pre-school settings which collectively provide the town with around 200 places for two and three year olds.  Local Authority data indicates that there will be 96 three year olds and 102 two year olds living in our catchment in the 2021/22 academic year. The current provision in the town will be able to meet this need and our own Nursery is therefore unlikely to experience an increase in demand sufficient to enable the staffing costs to match future income. We have sustained financial losses over the past two years (an overspend of £29,453.09 in 2019-20 and projected loss of around £12,000 in 2020-21) and if this change is not made, our budget will be in deficit by 2022. Pupil admission numbers into our Reception classes have also fallen steadily over recent years from around 90 and according to Local Authority data are expected to sit at around 55 for the next nine years. The Nursery currently only operates on a mornings-only basis as there were too few afternoon children (only one or two on some days) to warrant opening for full days.

The school values highly the views and opinions of the community within which it operates. We now seek your views regarding the closure of the Nursery at the Federation of North Walsham Junior, Infant and Nursery Schools.

The consultation will run from Monday 8th March until Monday 19th April.

If you wish to comment on the proposed changes please email: officeinf-nw@yare-edu.org.uk

Public meetings are not possible with current restrictions.  If you would like to find out more about the proposed changes, please contact us as above and we can arrange a phone call or if numbers interested warrant it, a virtual meeting.

  • Lateral Flow Tests

Adult family members of all school children are now eligible for twice weekly lateral flow tests.

Order these using this link: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

or there are collection sites in Norwich and Great Yarmouth.

We strongly encourage you to take these Covid tests in order to keep yourselves and the whole school community safe.

  • Return to school

Thu 28 Jan 2021 Mrs Read
Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced that it will not be possible to resume face-to-face learning immediately after the February half-term and instead hopes it will be safe to commence the reopening of schools and colleges from Monday 8 March. This is in response to the national public health data and pressure on NHS capacity.
Education settings, as well as parents and carers will be given at least two weeks notice to prepare for a return to face-to-face education.
Schools and colleges will remain open to vulnerable children and the children of critical workers after February half-term, as they are now. All other pupils will continue to receive high quality remote education at home. This is in line with the wider national lockdown measures to help minimise the spread of the virus and respond quickly to the new variant.
Our school Nursery will continue to remain open throughout and will continue to allow all children to attend their usual timetabled hours.
Education attendance restrictions are to be reviewed again in mid-February when the Government will look at when more pupils and students can be brought back into schools and further education.
  • Support with online access

Wed 06 Jan 2021 Mrs Read

Support with online accessBT, working in partnership with DfE have launched a scheme which temporarily increases data allowances for mobile phone users on certain networks. This is so that children and young people can access remote education if their face-to-face education is disrupted. Schools, trusts and local authorities can request mobile data increases for children and young people who:

    • do not have fixed broadband at home

    • cannot afford additional data for their devices

    • are experiencing disruption to their face-to-face education

For each request, the school needs to know:

    • the name of the account holder

    • the number of the mobile device

    • the mobile network of that device (for example Three)

Please contact the us with this information if you would like this support. We also have a small number of Vodafone 30gb data SIM cards available to support families in need.

  • Regarding PAN Consultation

Tue 08 Dec 2020 Mrs Read
We have been made aware that some parents have misunderstood our consultation regarding the pupil admission numbers for 2022, believing that children currently on roll in year groups of more than 60 will lose their places moving into the Junior School. This is NOT the case; any children currently on roll in the Infant School will automatically have a place at the Junior School. Nothing will change for ANY children currently on our roll in either school. Please contact us via the school office if you have any questions.

  • Government guidance to schools during lockdown

Thu 05 Nov 2020 Mrs Read

Guidance was sent to schools yesterday afternoon regarding the national restrictions which begin today. The following changes will need to be implemented until December 2nd:

    1. Extra-curricular activities (sports clubs and music lessons) cannot go ahead. This means that after-school sports clubs and instrumental lessons taught during the school day will not take place. Booster/Catch-Up classes after school are deemed as essential, curricular lessons and can continue. 2. Breakfast Clubs can remain open as they provide childcare for Key Workers and vulnerable children.

    3. Children in primary schools do not need to wear face masks, although staff will be wearing them in all communal areas including corridors.

    4. Children who are extremely clinically vulnerable may be advised by their consultant not to attend- the school will be in contact with the parents of children in this group today.

    5. Staff who are extremely clinically vulnerable will not be able to attend work. We will let you know if this will effect staffing in your child's class.

    6. Children should attend school as normal, even if they live with somebody in the ' extremely clinically vulnerable' group.

    7. We are relying on parents to follow our safety rules on site. There are still a number of parents who are not staying 2 metres away from others and who regularly walk into school next to eachother. PLEASE KEEP OUR COMMUNITY SAFE; keep to the one-way system (some parents are entering the site up the ramp)- wear a mask- only one adult per family on site.

    8. Parents and carers may be banned from the school site if their behaviour is rude and abusive towards school staff (who are trying their hardest to keep everyone safe) or if they continue to ignore our Covid-secure measures.
