The Federation of North WalshamInfant and Junior Schools

Safeguarding

The Federation of North Walsham Infant and Junior Schools is committed to prioritising the safety of your child and ensuring that they are not at risk of being harmed at school. This section of our website has been designed to help you understand what safeguarding is and the measures the school has in place to protect your child from harm. We will also provide you with information on what safeguarding concerns are and what you should look out for. It also outlines as what to do if you are concerned about a safeguarding issue and who to contact.

The school is committed to:

  • Protecting your child from abuse.
  • Preventing harm to your child’s health or development.
  • Ensuring your child feels safe in the school and is able to report their concerns if they do not feel safe.
  • Taking action where safeguarding concerns arise.
  • Promoting the welfare of your child.
  • Developing effective safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring staff members receive regular safeguarding training and updates and know what to do if they have safeguarding concerns.

Our Safeguarding Team

There are key adults in school who form part of our Safeguarding Team.

A Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is a member of school staff who has lead responsibility for child protection issues in school. We have a Senior DSL and Safeguarding Officer, who is an associate member of the school's leadership team, and six Alternate DSLs who deputise should the Senior DSL not be available.

All of our DSL's attend an initial 2 day Child Protection course delivered by Safeguarding specialists from Norfolk County Council.  This training is updated every two years. In addition, all DSLs attend Multi-Agency training in specific specialist areas of safeguarding such as domestic  abuse, neglect, Childhood Sexual Exploitation etc.

Our DSLs can be recognised by the DSL posters which are visible around the school site and and are always there to support not only our children but also our families. Our DSLs are on the gate every morning at drop-off, wearing orange hi-vis vests.

If you ever have concerns please call the school office on 01692 403013 and ask to speak to a DSL.
